The Level 5 Diploma (DADIP61) is a unique, online SpLD training qualification that is flexible and undertaken part-time. It is a comprehensive programme that trains teachers, teaching assistants and support tutors to become qualified specialist teachers (with QTS/PGCE) or practitioners (those without QTS/PGCE).
The programme is suitable for those working with children or adults and those based overseas. Participants will gain access to the unique resources of the Dyslexia Action Literacy Programme (DALP), a tailored specialist teaching programme.
Please note:
This route will take approximately eighteen months to two years to complete.
Applicants can choose from one of three pathways depending on their work setting.

Supervised teaching is an essential part of the third unit in the Level 5 Certificate in Strategic Teaching Support for Dyslexia and Literacy (DACRT60). Further details can be found in the brochure above.

The Level 5 Diploma course is designed to:
Participants will gain access to the unique resources of the Dyslexia Action Literacy Programme (DALP), a tailored specialist teaching programme.
The Dyslexia Action Literacy Programme (DALP) can be used in school or college settings or with individuals of any reading age in private practice.
There are no ‘live’ one-to-one tutorials or meeting provisions within these units or requirements to be online at particular/set times of the day).
In Unit 1 (DACPD81) and Unit 2 (DACPD82) of DACRT60 participants are expected to work through the many specially devised materials to acquire a theoretical understanding of the Dyslexia Action Literacy Programme (DALP) and the principles of specialist literacy provision. Tutors are available on the forums to give advice and respond to queries from participants.
Practical teaching is an essential part of the DACRT60 course. Candidates are required to submit evidence of teaching practice throughout the units. Unit tutors supervise the practical elements and give support and feedback on the teaching materials, assignments, lesson plans and evaluations and reports.
Dyslexia Action requires you to undertake a minimum of 20 hours of teaching support during the teaching practice. At least 10 hours of teaching support should be done with one learner individually (not in a group setting). Lessons normally take place on a weekly basis allowing lesson plans to be developed, resources to be prepared and tutor feedback to be given. Individual lessons can be scheduled for one hour or one-and-a-half hours with the learner (as appropriate for the age and profile of the learner). Successful completion of DADIP61 will enable participants to apply for Associate Membership of The Dyslexia Guild (ADG).

Assessment consists of a mixture of written assignments, practical activities and contributions to the forums on our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) Moodle. All submissions are uploaded either on Moodle or via links within Moodle. Many quizzes feature in the units, as a means of self-checking knowledge and directing participants to key pieces of information with the course materials.

The Level 5 Diploma (DADIP61) confers eligibility for Associate Membership of The Dyslexia Guild (ADG) recognised as the first grade of professional membership for a specialist teacher/practitioner and approved by The CPD Standards Office.
The Level 5 Diploma is also accredited by the British Dyslexia Association for Approved Teacher Status or Approved Practitioner Status (ATS/APS) and PATOSS for Associate membership.
After completing a specialist teaching programme at Level 5 or Level 7 you will have the option to continue your studies to become an assessor at Level 7 (20 hours of study a week). See this page for more details.
